Q: We have a 1,000 square foot home, with washer/dryer hookups outside on the patio. The house offers very little option for bringing the hookups inside except in the kitchen. We are thinking about this option. It would add much needed counter space but we are curious about any impact it may have on future value.

A: With the great climate in Long Beach it may be better to leave the units outside. I would hate to see you further diminish the kitchen space which is probably already at a premium in your 1,000 square foot home.
A better but more expensive solution might be to add a covered laundry room out on to the patio with interior access. You will be giving up some patio space but at least you won’t reduce the size of your kitchen.

A: If designed properly, it may add value. Wall partitions are important. Without seeing the actual space and plan it is hard to say over the Internet.

A: In the kitchen is better than on the patio!
